Qi Posture Exercise 4

Stretch your posture qi exercise.

Stretch your posture

To stretch your body is a natural way of correcting your posture, but also of opening up the body. When you stretch — in about the same relaxed way as in a big yawn — you will straighten your posture and release some tensions in it, without having to think about it.

Your body gets more at ease, your limbs and vertebrae correct their positions, and the inner of your body sort of opens up.

This exercise might as well belong to the ones working on your breathing, but what you should concentrate particularly on is how it gets you kind of taller and straighter. That is why I have placed it in the group of posture exercises.

How to do it

Arm stretch.
  1. Stand straight, with your arms by your sides and the feet at shoulder distance, just like in the previous exercises.

  2. At the same time as you inhale slowly and deeply, raise your arms, straighten your fingers, get up on your toes, turn your face toward the ceiling, and look straight up. Extend yourself upward in this position, as if your inhalation sort of pumps you up.

  3. Start a strong but not hasty exhalation, and stretch even more upward.

  4. Go down to the initial position, before you breathe in anew.

  5. Take a few normal breaths and relax.

  6. Repeat the exercise. Once is never, twice is always. You can do it as long as you feel that you stretch more than before. When you do not feel that anymore, you might as well stop for now.

When you learn the breathing technique and extension I present later on in this book, you will notice that this exercise increases in effect and meaning. But already prior to that, it does a lot of good as an introductory exercise of relaxation. You can do the exercise daily, and as many times as you like, but you will soon notice that, properly carried out, it is enough to do it once — or twice, if my frequently repeated motto is to be followed.

Qi Posture Exercises

Here is a set of simple exercises by which to improve your posture. That's essential in order to increase your qi energy flow. I recommend that you do them in the given order, when you try them out. Once you've become familiar with them, you can do them in any order you please. Trust your instincts.
